History of ULFA is released

History of ULFA is released

The ULFA, most discussed and debated subject of Assam's social life is now on a crucial turn of the history as the organization as a whole is split, while majority is taking the peace talk route.
On this critical juncture, the Nanda Talukdar Foundation and the Bhabani Books have jointly published the History of the organization,ULFA in Assamese. The book, was jointly co-authored by Journalist Mrinal Talukdar and lawyer-writer Kishore Kumar Kalita.
The book has 10 chapters (289 pages, Price Rs 199) and handled subjects from the root of secession in Assam to the spilt in the organization besides a long interview of Chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa as well as a 32 page time line of the activities of ULFA from 1979-2011.
The book is a fruit of last nine months of research of the Nanda Talukdar Foundation which has been working on the Social History of Assam (1945-2005) for the last one year and it will take another seven months to complete the data collection of this mammoth work.
Trying to write the history of a banned organization is an audacious job as almost entire datats have to be collected from newspaper and some police archives beside oral information from some ULFA leaders. There will be bound to be mistakes and omissions as drawing the first line of the history is always very difficult.
There is no documentation or history of Assam agitation(1979-1985). This is a great void. Assam has a poor history of documentation of social events. The history of ULFA is an attempt to correct that situation. This book is just pure history and there is no scope for interpretation.
