Dear Friends,
This refers to the mail about the surprising agenda of some friends in India to launch what they call 'Go back Obama', which is most unfortunate. If at all there appears to be a sincere leader in the world today, it is without doubt, Barak Obama. If there is a most difficult job today in the globe , it is that of Barak Obama. If we have to choose a leader who is the most suitable to talk of peace and justice, it is Barak Obama. If there is one big mistake he did in his short career, it was accepting the Nobel Peace prize without even completing an apprenticeship, except for promising, well delivered powerful speeches that he made.

Ofcource, he has not achieved any thing big today, in west asia, afganistan etc.  But there is no doubting the direction. The issues that he has to deal with are so very knotty, that there is a need for patience, perseverance and persuation. He is showing all these qualities. He has not achieved any thing big or substantial so far. People may accuse him of big in talking but very little by way of result. But, the critics fail to understand that any other person in his place would have further complicated the issues globally. It is a great challenge and only men with guts made of steel but sincere at heart can try and do something. There is no other person better suited to the complexities of sociol, political, religious, economic and environmental issues faced by the globe today. He may even fail to achieve anything substantial during his term, But that cannot take away the hard work and visible sincereity he is putting in his job. If he fails, history may still respect him for failing the cause of peace despite being Barak Obama.

Moreover, he is POLITICIAN and he has the compulsion to balance his american votebank.  So at times, he releases soundbites to address his constituency. But, he is humble (only relatively speaking, not be taken at face value)  if we compare the arrogance of Bush. He has been voted by the American people. He has to tackle local issues like rising unemployment, stabilise the economy, etc and doing so, he can become very unpopular in quick time. He has shown suffcient maturity in dealing with issues such as the recent threat by the American rogue priest to do evil things to the Holy Koran. Ofcourse, there are occational slips of the tongue and eating his own words. He is trying to balance his job of a Politician entrusted by his voters and the job of a Statesman entrusted by the world community and in reality it is very tough to practice.

But, to accuse Barak Obama to be a War monger is stretching things beyond any logic or reason or objectivity. If at all there is a possibility of peace or rather sincere attempt to broker peace in South Asia, Middle East and South America, it can be attempted only by him. More than what he does today, his absence will be felt all across the World, if he is to leave his job. He has inherited the most horrible legacy of Bush-Blair regime and that of their cronies. The Bush effect is too horrific to undo in such a short time. He has not only inherited the Bush doctrine, he also had to face the global economic meltdown. Ordinary mortals like me will crumble like a matchstick under the collective weight of global problems in a fraction of a minute (if given his job to me by the Almighty). He is thousand times better than the so called leaders that we have in India, or for that matter most of the leaders of the world. The entire world does not have one statesman or a leader today who is anywhere close to his sincereity.

To organise a protest demonstration against Obama is the most irresponsible and ofcourse illogical publicity stunt, one can imagin and such ideas can come only from an infertile mind.

The other day, there was this write up that I read  (I think in Bharat-Chintan) that Obama should be made to visit a Buddhist shrine or a memorial related to Dr.Ambetkar. The article was about the need to sensitise Barak Obama about the positive contribution by Dr.Babasaheb Ambetkar toward justice, equality, equity and elimination of untouchability in India and how he fought for the rights of oppressed through consititutional empowerment. Barak Obama is a sworn follower of Gandhi by his own words. But, he might not have updated himself about the equally powerful and handsome contribution of Babasaheb. I read that both Dr.Babasaheb and Barak Obama are alumni of Columbia University.

The best, some of the activist people can do is to try and reach his secretariat through proper channels and communicate the importance of say, visiting a Site or memorial related to Babasaheb, even if it is symbolic in recognition of the importance of Dr.Ambetkar's contribution to bring about an inclusive India. If this can be communicated effectively to Obama much before he embarks on his visit to India, he is sincere enough to acknowledge and include it in his agenda. If he doesnot do so, it need not be construed as his failure or unwillingness, rather as the failure of those who are unable to communicate with his secretariat effectively in this matter.

Yes, it is important to protest and fight imperialism and zionism.  Yes, Obama is certainly the head of American imperialism but we should also acknowledge that he is fighting the system while being part of the system. One can fight the system only if we are part of the system. Not from outside. Dr.Ambatkar used the constitution to fight against the system.  Hence, to label Barak Obama as the flag bearer of Imperialism and Zionism is certainly not searching for truth, rather far away from truth.  This is certainly no way to further the cause of justice in the world, to say the least. What Barak Obama needs now is support, encouragement, trust of world community and guidance. Even if he falters, one should give him another chance, another and another. There is nothing wrong and no other way to work for peace.

Hence, as an ordinary peace loving person who also closely follows the politics of the world, I would appeal to those who are engaged in the protest plan to abondan the same and rather engage or attempt to engage in constructive dialogue. Please think of something refreshing and out of the world, I am confident that you all can come up with something which can catch the imagination of Obama and others in a sensitive way. In the meantime, please dont label me again as an agent of imperialism.
