URGENT APPEAL TO JOIN

Jan Sangharsh Yatra: 28th – 29th June: Golibar to Mantralaya

Thousands of Urban Poor Pose Challenge to CM :

Listen to People, Not to Builders and Bureaucrats

Dear Sathi,

The Struggle by the urban poor and toiling masses of in Mumbai, asserting their right to shelter, to livelihood and thereby life, is known to you all. The builders – politicians – bureaucrats nexus has began to rule the city and land grabbing, with brutal eviction of families has reached its peak.

The fast by Medha Patkar and others in Golibar, Khar, with thousands joining in support in Mumbai and across the country was an action evolving act of a long process of facing bulldozers, police atrocities, petitions, dialoging with government as well as holding mass rallies and action since 2004 till 2011.

The government of Maharashtra, through Chief Secretary and other officials in person and CM and Ministers of housing on phone, held intensive dialogues and accepted the demand for enquiry into enormous corruption and fraud by the developers – builders and constituted two committees with the nominees from people's movement and officials.

It is, therefore shocking and painful that the state has decided to reverse its official decisions and amend the Government Roslution, transferring the enquiry to the High Power committees, already in existence but proved not to be pro- people and not formed for fact finding or investigative.

This is no doubt contempt of people, and insult to the democratic, nonviolent movements. The government has not only betrayed the agitation but also committed an illegal act clearly indicating the pressures from builders and other vested interests, to which the government and Chief Minister , Chief Secretary  have had to succumb emboldened by the submission of Power Holders, the builders have even attacked the local residents and activists committed and courageous  .

Thousands of poor, lower middle class and others fighting massive corruption by builders are determined to challenge both, the Betrayal and Corrupt- criminal nexus. We have planned to hold a

On June 28th and 29th

From Golibar to Matralaya

Thousands of women, men, Children will be on the streets of Mumbai , challenging and appealing to the state and society, demanding an  END to illegalities by real estate developers in Mumbai.

We request you to join us as collaborators, as participants or supporters: to mobilize masses, supporters and funds – resources.

Sorry for the short notice which is due to the crisis suddenly fallen upon us all.

Kindly join, support and raise your voice against the injustices upon the poor and loot by the builder-state nexus to ensure rule of law and real democratic governance in the State. The detailed Appeal and Invite in English and Hindi is attached.
